Original cream buckram, in the original dust jacket illustrated with the title page vignette, some loss to the spine panel of the dust jacket, now preserved in a Brodart archival jacket; 15, [3]pp., illustrated with 13 wood-cuts, including 4 full-page, by David Jones; light scattered spotting to the dust jacket, small spot to the lower portion of the upper board, tiny spot to the title-page, otherwise a particularly bright, crisp copy.

Limited edition of numbered 175 copies, of which this is number 22, inscribed thus in ink to the colophon. Printed by Robert Gibbings at Waltham Saint Lawrence, Berkshire.

The first of three books illustrated by David Jones for the Golden Cockerel Press. Cave and Manson describe Jones’s engravings as being ‘of tremendous power, in which the harmony between the designs and the type was managed with great skill ... a totally successful conclusion.’
