Bound in Irish blue linen covered boards, the original titled paper label to the backstrip, chipped at the extremities, not affecting the text or the Essex House Press ‘dianthus’ device, later dark green endpapers, housed in a custom-made cloth-covered slipcase; [ii], 259, [1], viii, [2]pp., 5 plates including one double-page, illustrations within the text reproducing those in the 1750 edition of the Parentalia, 20 engravings after drawings by E. H. New of a selection of Sir Christopher Wren’s Parochial City Churches, decorated initials; very light scattered spotting to the boards, faint mark running diagonally from the joint of the upper board to its lower edge, small closed tear to the lower margin of p.249, neatly repaired, otherwise a bright, clean copy.
Provenance: F.R. Furber (1921-2016) lawyer, bon viveur, golfer, and book collector, with his neat book label to the upper outer corner of the front pastedown.
Edited from the original edition of 1750 by Ernest J. Enthoven and printed at the Essex House Press, Campden, Gloucestershire under the supervision of C.R. Ashbee.
